After octad age fronting Brazilian supergroup Soweto, singer Belo go under away to instal himself in the recording manufacture as a solo creative person. Having sold better than three zillion units with Soweto, Belo was already considered the samba voice of his generation earlier launching a solo calling, a hard-earned reputation that would only take in believability. His solo premier, Desafio (EMI), was a smash success, going double platinum inside a year of its tone ending. Belo ao Vivo, a bouncy record released in October of 2001, was a firm follow-up, selling more than 270,000 units. Belo consistently drew on musicians wHO had contributed to Soweto's success. Producer Prateado along with arrangers and instrumentalists such as Jota Moraes, Paulinho Calazans, and Carlinhos Gonzalez were regular collaborators from Belo's early days straight through to his third and fourth original releases, Valeu Esperar and Romance Rosa. In 2006 Belo released Procura -- Se Um Amor, a aggregation of his solo industrial plant.

¡Cubanismo! sure as shooting has beneficial timing. Releasing their first album just now before the seminal world euphony succeeder of Buena Vista Social Club, they were self-possessed to have a real impingement with their musical Cuban music that unbroken its roots warm but besides reached outward with a rhythmic kick and a sense of run a risk. The band was formed by cornetist Jesús Alemañy, wHO had been a Cuban child prognostication, gliding through Havana's Conservatorio Amadeo Roldan, so connection Sierra Maestra, the grouping that helped restore Cuban logos, when he was just 16. The solid foundation in Cuban musical traditions stood him in beneficial position when he was eventually ready to go it solitary after more than a x. He affected to London in 1992, playing, learning, and networking with fellow Cubans, including percussionist Patato Valdez, for whom he helped coordinate a descarga, or jam session, in Paris in 1994. Among those invited was track record producer and head of Hannibal Records Joe Boyd. He liked what he heard and suggested that Alemañy return to Cuba and machinate some other descarga, this one to be recorded. It took a small patch, only in 1995 a group of musicians assembled at Egrem Studios in Havana, including ex-serviceman piano player Alfredo Rodríguez and ten-year-old bongo drum player Julian Oveido -- a wide cross section of ages, only all extremely talented. They set down some classic Cuban material with sizzling solos and percussion section, and the outcome was the first gear, self-titled ¡Cubanismo! record, released in 1996. Extensive touring and frequent lineup changes followed, significance that Malembe, the band's 1997 follow-up, had observably dissimilar personnel. But if anything, the music was hotter and jazzier than before, with the emphasis remaining on Cuban classics, although some original material crept into the mix. Arriving as it did when Buena Vista Social Club started opening American ears to Cuban sounds, Malembe helped ¡Cubanismo! tap into the Zeitgeist for the music and get known as they continued to term of enlistment the worldly concern unceasingly. By 1998 they were kindling on all cylinders, as Reencarnacion showed, with the speech rhythm on fire and the trumpet solos louder and higher than always, as the rest of the stripe -- with many different faces erst more than -- seemed to burn knockout and burnished. However, it was truly commencement to seem that they'd foregone as far as they could down that picky street, unless they wanted to start repeating themselves. What followed was a two-year crack betwixt records, which all over with the 2000 release of Mardi Gras Mambo, a record that connected the dots betwixt the musics of Havana and the Crescent City. And they sure enough seemed to have a portion in common, with second-line rhythms, New Orleans R&B, and regular a small rap motley with logos and mambo. A bunch of Louisiana guests, including ex-serviceman isaac Bashevis Singer John Boutté, lententide their talents to tunes like the traditional "Iko Iko" and Huey P. Smith's "It Do Me Good," as intimately as some originals, to create a gumbo with passel of Cuban spice and a ¡Cubanismo! that sounded reinvigorated. A successful U.S. turn followed the record's vent.

Miley Cyrus' Controversial Photos Spark Fierce Debate Among Fans, Parents

You'd have to be living under a large gray blanket for the past few days not to hear about Miley Cyrus' photo spread for next month's Vanity Fair, shot by the renowned Annie Leibovitz. But despite Cyrus' quick apology, the impact of MileyGate is still being felt as hoards of teens and parents alike have been forced to consider the rights and wrongs of the 15-year-old "Hannah Montana" star's risqué photos.
On Tuesday, MTV News intern Jackie Burns used the Newsroom Blog to air her grievances as a Miley fan and as someone who remembers that purgatory of being not a girl and not yet a woman (and yes, the unfortunate Britney reference is becoming an integral part of this debate).
"Parents of younger fans — and the big boys in suits — tend to put girls like Miley in a box, packaged with a pretty pink bow and lots of sunshine," Burns wrote. "Realistically, that's not what 15-year-old girls are made of." And the comments came rolling in.
"I would much rather that they continue to guide her to be the role model they had the whole world believing she is, even though she's now a mature 15," commenter Teen Mom declared. "Hello to the next Spears family???"
Responses from both sides were equally passionate. Raeve1 praised the photo, explaining, "It made me think of a little girl that had gotten into her mother's makeup and was putting on her mother's clothes to look like a grownup. I thought it was innocent and beautiful."
The fact that many have deemed the photo to be sexualized prompted Shannon, a mother of a 9-year-old, to comment, "I think what we need to all look at is how the media has perverted this beautiful picture of a beautiful girl coming of age."
That interpretation is a far cry from what other critics have thought the shot represented. "These are professional photos, where adults dressed up a young girl to look much older, to emulate an erotic situation," Eve wrote.
Many sympathized with the pop sensation's approach to exhibiting her personal growth, "This is an innocent teen that was taken advantage of," B. Russell said. "Miley, you have no reason to be sorry; you did nothing wrong. I am just sorry that you have to go through the bullsh-- of all this. You keep up the good work."
Commenter Gina reminded readers that celebrities like Miley are "just like us, doing mistakes and learning from them."
"She's acting like a normal 15-year-old girl. The only difference is that everything she does makes it onto the news," Shawn rationalized. Clarissa concurred in her comments, exclaiming, "The pictures are beautiful, and I've seen much worse." But MissKing offered an exception: "I am 16. I see other girls doing much worse in photos, but she is held up as this role model, and she IS NOT A NORMAL GIRL. She is a celebrity."
Many commenters were neither as kind nor as understanding in their feedback. "The Charles Barkley argument is a tired one," hahaha wrote, recalling the hoops player's stance that not every celebrity should be considered a role model. "You want life in the public eye? Then learn to accept public criticism. People pay to watch you work. That makes you not normal. If you don't care, more power, but if you have built an image you want to protect, then smarten up and act accordingly."
Taking issue with Miley's supposed appreciation for the shot's "artistry," Bfranklins shot back, "Sorry, Miley, but you wouldn't know art if it bought the entire floor of one of your inflated Winnie the Pooh Striptease Spectaculars and you stage-dived into it. And you sure aren't going to learn what it is from your mom and dad."
Caitilin Michigan held a similar ire for the star and tersely typed, "Miley Cyrus is a horrible girl who just wants publicity."
Many thought Cyrus had disregarded her status as a role model to young girls when she mugged for Leibovitz. "My 5-year-old loves this girl, and so does everyone in her kindergarten class. This type of behavior by 'Hannah Montana' is repulsive and her parents have every right to be angry and ashamed right now. Miley can't do what she wants to do. She is a cash cow for Disney. If she wants to live her life, then her parents need to retire her as soon as the contract expires," reader Dee Dee cautioned.
Trish, another mother, added: "Art or not. It's not something little minds are equipped to, or should have to, process just yet."
Reader taxigirl perhaps best explained Cyrus' limbo between role model and maturing teen. "[This scandal] violates an implicit trust between her and the kids (and the parents of the kids) who are her fans. If any teenager who was babysitting or giving swim lessons or being a camp counselor acted in front of the kids the way they act among other teenagers, they'd be promptly fired. Sucks to be her, but at least she's making good money off of it."
Then Carl put the situation into perspective: "Life's not fair, get over it. In three years she can pose for Playboy or whatever else she wants."
What do you think? Is Miley Cyrus still worthy of her "role model" status? Is that something she wanted in the first place? Keep the conversation going here!

Chris Brown's Movie Career Heats Up, With T.I.-Produced Heist Movie, Shane Sparks Dance Flick On Horizon

HOLLYWOOD — He may not have taken home a popcorn trophy at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards— where he lost the Breakthrough Performance honor to Zac Efron — but if the gold carpet was any indication, Chris Brown, the hottest singer and dancer in the music business just happens to be also the hottest young actor in Hollywood.

Both T.I. and "America's Best Dance Crew" judge Shane Sparks revealed exclusively to MTV News — in completely separate interviews — that they're in talks with Brown to star in their next feature films.

"I have a script that I'm working on called 'Bone Deep,' over at Screen Gems, that I'll be starring in with Idris Elba," T.I. said, name-checking the British actor who co-starred with him in "American Gangster" and with Brown in "This Christmas."

At press time, Brown's reps said he was working on two movies, "Heist" (which is presumably the T.I. project) and "Traded," and is in talks for "Phenom" a film about a high school basketball player.

"It's a new-age, young, hip-hop 'Heat,' " Tip said, comparing his film to the 1995 classic that brought Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino together.

T.I. will star in and produce the project, and the MC hopes to cast Brown as a young member of a fun-loving criminal crew. "These are young, cool, well-dressed, articulate bank-robbers," Tip explained. "We're actually contemplating Chris Brown. I don't know how concrete that is, but we're contemplating it. ... He'll be the little homey.

"You can definitely expect action, definitely. It will be very entertaining," the "ATL" star promised of his producing debut. "In music, I'm on both sides: the executive business end as well as the artist/performer end. And film is no different."

An excited Sparks told us his next big-screen project "is a movie called 'The Jump-Off,' and it's like a 'High School Musical' meets 'You Got Served.' " (This is probably the movie Brown's reps call "Traded.")

Unlike T.I.'s project, Brown would be tapping feet rather than squeezing triggers in this flick. "Chris Brown is up for the lead guy on it," Sparks added. "Hopefully, that works out. The movie is a smash, and this'll be the icing on the cake. So, be on the lookout for it — it should be out at the beginning of next year. We start filming next month; we're rehearsing right now."

With a grin, the man who choreographed "Served" said that he'll be plotting out this movie's dance moves too. "We've got singing, we've got dancing, we've got ballet, we've got lyrical, we've got salsa. It's going to be the first movie to introduce every style, and have a musical sense to it, where you can hear people actually singing and doing spoken word and rap.

"The journey of this crew ... has them learning stuff as their teacher takes them through the process of ... broadening their horizons," he explained. "So at the end of the movie, when they dance in the contest, they will have [more experience than] just being a hip-hop crew, which is what they started out to be.

"He called us," Sparks said of Brown, barely an hour before the 19-year-old showed off his dance moves in a jaw-dropping display alongside funnyman Mike Myers on the Movie Awards stage. "Now, we just need to make sure everything is right for him. We've got to take care of him. He was very interested in the movie, and if he comes aboard, it's going to be the hottest movie ever made. Trust me."

The "So You Think You Can Dance" judge also revealed that once Brown signs on the dotted line, he has every intention of getting the star to contribute his voice as well.

"We're definitely going to try to get him to do some music," Sparks promised. "We're already working on the soundtrack, as a matter of fact. And if Chris becomes a part of it, we'll definitely try to get him to do the title track."

" 'Stomp the Yard' was by one of my best friends, and one of the best movies of last year," Sparks said of Brown's acting debut. "I really liked it as a dance movie."

Ultimately, however, he said that one thing will give "The Jump-Off"/"Traded" a leg up on Brown's last dancing flick. "I'm going to be doing the choreography," he laughed.

Hayden Panettiere - Panettiere Hates Us Age Limits

HEROES actress HAYDEN PANETTIERE has criticised the U.S. for imposing strict age limits on teenagers - branding the legal drinking age of 21 as "ridiculous".

The 18-year-old star insists she is much happier in Britain where the legal age limit on buying alcohol is 18 and she is able to get served in bars.

Panettiere insists America's age restrictions are old-fashioned and in desperate need of reform.

She says, "I can buy porn or kill someone in war but I can't have a glass of wine. If I could change one thing about America, it would be its ridiculous age limits on things.

"That's why I love visiting Britain. I can walk into a bar and order a drink without having to show my passport. That's so cool."
